The Physics Department of Syiah Kuala University (USK) conducts a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to develop a new vision, mission, objectives, and strategies for 2024.

Banda Aceh, February 26, 2024 — The Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Syiah Kuala University (USK) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to formulate new vision, mission, objectives, and strategies (VMTS) that will guide the department’s future development. The event occurred over two days at the Department of Physics FMIPA USK. All faculty members from the three programs under the Department of Physics attended the course: the Associate Degree in Computer Science, the Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, and the Master’s Degree in Physics.

The FGD aimed to evaluate the achievements of the previous vision and mission, which will expire in 2024, and to develop VMTS aligned with the strategic direction of the University and FMIPA USK, as well as to address the accreditation requirements of the Independent Accreditation Agency for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA).

The Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Saumi Syahreza, S.Si., M.Si, opened the event. Two main speakers were invited to provide strategic direction and input: Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhendrayatna, M.Eng. (Chair of the USK Quality Assurance Agency) and Dr. Nasrullah, S.Si., M.Sc. (First Deputy Dean of FMIPA USK). Both presented materials related to the vision, mission, and strategic plans of USK and FMIPA, which serve as the foundation for formulating the VMTS of the Physics Department.

The FGD activities included presentations, group discussions, the development of graduate user needs assessment tools, and formulating the draft VMTS for the Physics Department. The discussions were conducted intensively and participatively, involving input from internal and external stakeholders, including feedback from graduate users via a Google Form.

The chairperson of the activity, Dr. Ir. Adi Rahwanto, M.Eng.Sc, stated that this activity resulted in the formulation of a new vision, mission, objectives, and strategies for the Physics Department of FMIPA USK that are more contextual, progressive, and adaptive to the challenges of the times. The formulated vision focuses on developing innovative, independent, and socio-science entrepreneur-minded physics graduates at the Southeast Asian level.

This activity is part of the institutional development program based on the State University Budget for the 2024 fiscal year. It is the initial step toward strengthening accreditation and academic governance that is more integrated and outstanding.
